Early Warning Signs Of Bed Bug Infestation

Many times people are so busy with their professional and personal life, they tend to be very oblivious to the small things happening around them. One thing easily ignored or unnoticed may be a bed bug infestation. Bed bugs are small and hard to notice because they blend very well with the home decor. On top of that, they are very harmful and their bites hurt immensely. A good bed bug control tactic is to detect early signs of infestation and nip them in the bud.

Some of the early signs of a potential bed bug infestation are:

Hiding Places

Bed bugs primarily live off blood, as such their favorite hiding places are places where they can easily suck human blood undetected; you guessed right! they hide in crevices around the bed or in mattresses. An inexplicable blood stain or a dark brown stain usually signals a bed bug infestation, this stain is either a residue blood stain from their feeding session or their feces. Watch out for brown stains around your bed as this indicates that you have bed bugs.

Bite Marks

If you notice any bite marks on your body, do not hesitate to take it as a sign of bed bug infestation. Initially, their bites are painless but later on, they turn into very painful and itchy welts. These welts look similar to mosquito bites and are often mistaken as it. However, watch out for other signs that affirm that the culprits are bed bugs.

Shed Skin And Excretion Deposits

Bed bugs shed their skin multiple times so you may find slough off the skin around your mattress, pillows or underneath the bed. This shed skin looks like an empty bug, as though the bed bug took off its entire body! It is brownish and hollow; watch out for these exoskeletons at possible hiding places. As previously stated, bed bugs also leave behind fecal stains which are brown in color so you might want to keep on the lookout for that as well.

Eggs

Bed bugs lay multiple eggs much like other pests. These eggs are usually shiny and whitish in color and are translucent as well. They are found in their possible hiding places and their favorite material of choice is wood. Watch around the bed corners and cabinets for such shiny and sticky eggs.

It is worthy to note that a bed bug’s usual entry points are luggage, clothes, used furniture, and other cluttered items. A bed bug infestation is not a sign of poor hygiene; they can crawl their way into the cleanest places as easily as they crawl into dirty ones. However, watching out for these early signs are a good way to eliminate the threat before it escalates into a full-fledged infestation. Make a habit of routinely checking for these signs as well as cleaning areas that may be their possible hideouts. A good recommendation is contacting an expert pest controller, who has more experience and training in detecting these signs and locating their hideouts.
