Advantages of Spring Pest Control

Spring Time is Pest Control Time

Many types of pest problems increase when it starts to warm up outside, either because those pests are breeding faster or waking up from dormancy. Now that we are seeing the first signs of spring here in Utah, you might be wondering when you will see spiderswaspsants, and mosquitoes invading your quiet home again. In fact, you may have even seen some signs of activity over the past couple of weeks! Naturally, this leads to the question: when is the best time to call for a spring pest control treatment from Beeline Pest Control?

Is it better to have it done in the early spring when the temperatures are milder, or should you wait until the heat of the summer when the pest populations have grown and there are a lot more bugs to kill? Let’s discuss the best time to have your home treated, why this is the case and how often it should be done.

Best Time for Pest Control Treatments

The best time for a high-quality pest treatment really depends on you and your home. Sorry, I know you were probably wanting me to nail down the exact day, but it really is different depending on your scenario. However, generally speaking, it is better to get rid of a pest population when it is just getting started rather than waiting until you already have an infestation. For example, if you have been dealing with mice all winter long, you already missed the ideal time for that treatment by a few months. But since you probably don’t have a time machine, you should still have us get those taken care of for you as soon as possible. Let’s say you live in an area where mice aren’t much of a problem but you normally get earwigs in your house during July and August.  In that case, early July would be the best time for a treatment. The idea is, it’s best to hit the pests just as their population is sprouting (I know, bugs don’t really sprout, but I think you get the point).

Although we have a variety of pests here in Utah that are more active in the winter, we definitely get more calls from homeowners with pest problems in the warmer months. The summer pest populations are at their lowest right now, but these populations will keep increasing as the temperature rises. This makes spring an ideal time for a preventive pest control solution.

A spring pest control treatment will have an exponential effect on reducing the pest populations later on. Since each individual pest typically reproduces hundreds of pests just like them as time goes on, getting rid of ten of them in the spring can result in hundreds fewer in the early summer and thousands fewer by late summer. It is a lot easier to get rid of a dozen or so now than it is to get rid of thousands of them later.

That said, it is never too late! If you missed your chance to get a treatment before it became an infestation and you now have spiders, ants, or earwigs coming out of the woodwork (literally), we can still get very effective results for you. Beeline Pest Control uses highly advanced products, equipment, and techniques to make sure you are safe and comfortable in your home when it comes to home-invading pests.

When should I get my next spray treatment?

The next question we usually get from customers is how often they should have their home treated. The products available in the pest control industry are regulated and approved by the EPA and typically last around 3 months before they start to naturally break down. Some of our customers swear that our treatment kept working for six months, nine months or even a year. In reality, the treatment we provided was not still killing pests beyond three months. However, because we eliminated the “seed population” the homeowners were able to experience fewer pests for much longer than the lifespan of the products used.

To answer the question of how often you should get your home serviced, it depends on how tolerant you are of pests. If you are the type of person who doesn’t mind seeing an occasional spider in the basement or doesn’t mind an earwig or two in between services, then a couple of times a year may just be fine for you, maybe once in the spring and another in late summer. On the other hand, if you are the kind of person who would rather not have to ever wake up to a spider crawling across your face or ants getting into your food, then you should look into our Quarterly Maintenance Program.

Remember, different types of pests are more active during different seasons throughout the year. With our Quarterly Maintenance Program, you won’t have to worry about any pest inside your home throughout all of the different seasons. We visit your home four times throughout the year. These visits are spaced out evenly. This allows us to maintain a constant “bug barrier” around your home to prevent any new pests from making it into your living space between treatments. Homeowners who choose the Quarterly Maintenance Program receive a year-round guarantee against pests inside their homes for most of the common pests we experience here in Utah. They also enjoy discounts on services for any rare and/or exterior invaders such as Box Elder Bugs, should the need arise.
